Aloha,
As we move into the holiday period - we here at Iwahai are in the same boat as many other folks throughout the world. The dilemma is whether to risk seeing family and friends or to play it safe, sort of write off 2020, and hope that the vaccine and a normalized world re-emerge in 2021. No matter what you decide, we hope you and your loved ones are safe and we are thankful that things appear to be moving in a direction indicative of normalcy - even if the path getting there seems exceedingly chaotic.
One of the early use cases I wanted to create VoiceMarkr for was to use it as a sort of time capsule for catching family history, important stories in specific places, and recording the places and people that matter to me on a map - forever. Or as long as the internet and the cloud exist - which is probably a lot less than forever - but longer than our human time spans.
I envisioned how cool it would be to put a VoiceMarkr on the spot where grandparents bought their first house or had their first date - and then record their memories there. I pictured being able to have an old uncle tell the story of a famous family legend and to be able to preserve it there and share it with everyone in my family - and future generations.
VoiceMarkr is already pretty good at those things. You can already set a markr in the place of your choice and then record on it. One of the things we are working on right now is creating nested comments and data. Imagine putting the markr on Grandma’s house, labeling it Thanksgiving, and having everyone be able to share their love on it. It could be a private marker, just for family, or something you could share with the world. And you could keep adding to it! Year after year, voice after voice, generation after generation. Join me in considering the fantastic for a moment as we think of a VoiceMarkr at Grandma’s house marked Thanksgiving and containing decades of recordings and stories (and photos and videos). Imagine how important such an archive could be within your family. Then imagine how important it could be in other settings.
Okay, okay… I’ll come back to earth now. In any event, I recommend that you go try VoiceMarkr out if you haven’t already - and if you have - experiment with it, play with it, think about what you would like it to be able to do…and then hit reply on this email and share that with me.
We wish you and your loved ones a safe and Happy Thanksgiving. Be safe and be well.
I hope you all have a wonderful week.
